As brown sugar milk tea gain traction among the Vancouver food scene, more tea stations jumping on the Brown Sugar Milk Tea hype train. As a result, we are getting more options and varieties of the brown sugar milk tea. Couple of days ago we reviewed the Brown Sugar Milk Tea Bingsoo from Black Milk Water. Today we are going to talk about the pre-packaged Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream bar we found at the T&T supermarket.
The Packaging Picture Looks Too Pretty To Be True
There are 4 ice cream bars packages in each box. For $6 per box, this is $1.50 per ice cream bar. The box show a picture of the perfect ice cream bar. The exterior is beautifully marbled. Brown sugar and pearls are evenly distributed. This is a little misleading because the pearls of the ice cream bars I’ve had looks nothing like this.
Taiwanese products have good packaging. The individual packaging have black background to highlight the beige/brown mixed color ice cream bar. The large amount of pearls shown looks like popping out of the ice cream bar. This is very misleading, but is appealing to customers and boosts sales.
The Actual Ice Cream Bar Is Quite Soft
The actual brown sugar boba ice cream bar cannot retain its own shape. It needs to be stored in a much colder temperature than consumer grade freezer. Most of the ice cream bars I open are too soft. The brown sugar on the outside increase friction to the packaging. Merely the force of pulling the bar out of the packaging is enough to deform the ice cream bar. When biting into the bar, the ice cream is very soft, kind of like custard.
The Boba Can Be Better Distributed
My first bite has no pearls. The milk and brown sugar seems to be separate. Milk is creamy and soft. Brown sugar is icy. They taste great together. It taste better than some of the lower end bubble tea you can get in town.
Most of the pearls are at the end of the ice cream bar. These are not individual pearls as I have expected. They’re more like lumps of four to five pearls stuck together in a cluster. It’s not ideal, but the mochi-like texture is still soft after being frozen. To be honest, this is probably one of the better in-home brown sugar milk tea cravings options if you don’t want to go out.
604 Food Critic Assessment
For $1.50 each bar, the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Pearl ice cream bar may seem expensive. However it taste quite similar to bubble tea. I would see this as a way to enjoy bubble tea at home. Looking at it this way, these ice cream bars seems quite fairly priced. These ice cream bars run out very fast. I would grab a couple of boxes if I see them again.
