JoDeen Cafe Taiwanese Wheel Cake Dessert with Bubble Tea

Even though the store was chaotic when we arrived JoDeen Cafe on the 3rd day of their soft opening, the food and drinks were very tasty. Wheel Cake was not only filled with toppings that squeeze out from the side with every bite, but also with a crispy shell that remained crispy after my 10 minutes drive home. The drinks quality also speaks for itself. At the time this article is written, the customer service needs the most attention. Ice level customization should be standard in 2021. Dessert and drinks should be served within 30 minutes. I’m hopeful that JoDeen can figure these details out in due time. By then, I can honestly recommend this cafe on all aspects.

Yum Bunnys Taiwanese restaurant that just doesn’t cut it

Yum Bunnys is a franchise that started in Taiwan. It is also the first Taiwanese restaurant in Metro Vancouver that specializes in yam puffs. I don’t know what happened, but they really need to work on how they prepare of their food. It would be nice if they can own up to their mistakes and take care of their customer first, but to be honest, they have bigger issues to deal with. The food that’s being served by a franchise store should taste consistent. I am quite disappointed by Bunnys, and cannot recommend this to anyone.

L’atelier Patisserie, Desserts Cakes and Croissants

L’atelier Patisserie serves very refined baked products. The pastry chef here has the boldness to combine ingredients to create new and interesting flavours. They have also demonstrated their techniques that are evident in the simple croissants, which is made with 10% ingredients and 90% skills. In case of anyone wondering, this place is also one of the rare places where the price still looks reasonable. L’atelier Patisserie is now my go-to place when I feel like taking a short trip to France.

Mr Japanese Curry

Mr. Japanese Curry recently opened their door. There are always line up in front of their door. There are 2 guys working the kitchen and counter. They are friendly and knowledgeable of their product. Their slogan is “Curry for All!!”, and it can be witnessed in the versatility of their menu. That being said, Mr. Japanese Curry really delivers a comfortable hearty meal with high quality ingredients that doesn’t break your wallet.

Old Xian’s Food (老西安厨娘子) in Crystal Mall

I have not tried other Old Xian’s Food location, but Old Xian’s Food’s Crystal Mall branch really should not be operating. Their food quality received a 1-star review because we don’t have the option to give 0 star. The noodle has poor texture, mediocre taste, and they skimp out on the meat. On the other hand, the rougamo is just so bad that it should not even exist. You can really see the minimal care they put into their food. We have nothing against this restaurant chain, but the poor quality of the food served at their Crystal mall location is simply unbelievable. We do not recommend Old Xian’s Food.

Mean Poutine Vancouver Downtown

Mean Poutine is not a fancy joint but they got the essentials of a good poutine down. They serve large portioned poutine with an affordable price of $8. I wish I had ordered the basic poutine instead of the Mean Supreme which has too much toppings. That way I could really know how much fresh cheese curds they put in each order. Perhaps that is something I will find out on my next visit.

Dog Eat Corndog

Dog Eat Corndog is a nice little food truck serving corndog. The owner use his secret recipe dough and sauce to bring us authentic Korean style corndogs. He uses low temperature to deep-fry the corndogs so he can give customers the ideal corndog he wants to serve even though it drastically reduce the efficiency in serving. I really enjoyed the taste and texture of the corndog batter. It’s like eating a cake inside a crispy corndog shell. The cost of corndogs ranges from $4 to $8 which is a little high for corndogs, but still acceptable given how much care the owner of Dog Eat Corndog put into each corndogs.

Mon Paris Patisserie

We were excited to try Mon Paris Patisserie after 3 years they have been open. The store is beautifully setup with display that just works. We really enjoyed the croissant, but think the cake can use some work. Next time we will come for the bonbons, macaron and Chocolate double baked with hazelnuts croissant. Mon Paris Patisserie is fairly priced. Even though I think the cake needs improvement, I’m sure there are customers who find the cake just perfect.

Salty’s Lobster Shack Food Truck

I am very happy to see Salty’s Lobster Shack choose to operate their food truck in an urban environment for us to enjoy their delicious lobster rolls close to home. Their lobster rolls are refreshing summer treat, but I am disappointed by the amount of imitated crab meat fillers inside. Aside from that, I hope they can be more dependable on following their schedules. I tried to visit them at the park twice at different days of the week without any luck.
