Song Tea is a bubble tea franchise that started in China. Part of their signature is to jokingly incorporate negative energy in their drink’s name. Their locations in China are very popular among the young crowds. Song Tea’s first Vancouver location is on No. 3 Road between Cambie Road and Alderbridge Way in Richmond.
Strength: Good ice level and drinks are quite refreshing.
Weakness: Poor quality lid and small pearls might not be for everyone.
Other Bubble Tea Shops
Song Tea’s front
Song Tea is located in the North building where a plaza where two buildings wrap this at-grade parking lot. The store entrance is very close to No. 3 Road.
Tiny interior space
The interior space only has 10 table seats with 4 bar stool seatings facing the windows. This store definitely aims for grab-and-go. All of the staff look young and have a bit of an attitude. My interactions with them were minimal.
Song Tea’s mascot and logo
Song Tea has a logo of a sad face. The mascot is an alpaca with gangster sunglasses.
Oolong Milk Tea $5.25
I am not sure if they have normal-sized pearls, but it was a surprise when I received small pearls. These pearls took more than 1/3 of the space in my cup. The drinking experience feels more like drinking pearls than drinking milk tea. It would be much better if they have normal size pearls. Although the milk tea tastes pretty refreshing, the milk tastes more like they are made with milk powder.
Poor Quality Lid
There were two circular indents on the lid. I pushed my straw through one of them and it broke. Song Tea should probably use lids that actually allow straws to go through without breaking.
604 Food Critic Assessment
Song Tea did not meet my expectations. I assumed the popularity was gained through the quality of products, while in fact, it’s just a trendy brand using cleverly named drinks to attract young people. Being a drink for $5.25, customers would definitely be expecting fresh milk and perhaps asking if small pearls are okay with the customer. For what it’s worth, Song Tea failed in all aspects of our reviews. None of the atmosphere, service, food quality and the cost are worth the visit. I assume this place will soon go out of business.
