The T&T Supermarket has been making its own series of prepackaged frozen food. We can buy these to enjoy at the convenience of our own home. We all know these types of prepackaged food won’t taste as good as the ones from the restaurant. What attracts me is the time I get to save. These “Juicy Pork Dumpling” can be bought at any T&T Supermarkets in the lower mainland.
Strength: A quick snack can be ready within 15 minutes.
Weakness: Not Xiao Long Bao
Other Xiao Long Bao
Xiao Long Bao Package
Each box cost $9.99 and comes with 750g of Xiao Long Bao. T&T did not advertise this as Xiao Long Bao, but we can clearly see what it is on the picture. For the amount of buns you are getting, there is quite a bit of value in this box. To put things in perspective, Din Tai Fung‘s Xiao Long Bao cost $1.35 each.
Xiao Long Bao expands
The buns only took about 10 minutes to cook. This is the key reason why I bought these. Normal meals take about 20 minutes to prepare. For these Xiao Long Bao, I only need to put it in a steamer and put on a timer. Collect the Xiao Long Bao when it’s cooked.
Don’t put them so close together
Don’t be like me and put them so close to each other. Remember, the buns will expand once it’s cooked. The contact with another bun will make them stick to each other. The skin is not strong enough to withstand the force to be pulled apart with another bun. The skins are thin but without strength. The texture is similar in the meat filling.
These Xiao Long Bao lack a bit of flavour. It is not disgusting enough to receive a one-star but they’re not great either. There is not much soup in each bun. The meat tastes a little overly fatty. The grease inside is going to give you the illusion that you are full very fast.
Don’t put the buns directly on the plate
Put the buns on a layer of parchment paper before you cook so it doesn’t stick to the bottom. It is my own fault for the side and the bottom of the Xiao Long Bao to tear.
604 Food Critic Assessment
We get quite a bit of Xiao Long Bao in the plastic box for $9.99. You can easily the trace of machines. I agree these are not authentic Xiao Long Bao. They are tasty emergency rations when I feel lazy to go out. I cannot recommend this to everyone because they fail as Xiao Long Bao. If you add on the convenience factor, but they are not bad.
