Yum Bunnys Taiwanese restaurant that just doesn’t cut it

Food Quality
Atmosphere / Services
Reasonable Priced
Summary

Yum Bunnys is a franchise that started in Taiwan. It is also the first Taiwanese restaurant in Metro Vancouver that specializes in yam puffs. I don’t know what happened, but they really need to work on how they prepare of their food. It would be nice if they can own up to their mistakes and take care of their customer first, but to be honest, they have bigger issues to deal with. The food that’s being served by a franchise store should taste consistent. I am quite disappointed by Bunnys, and cannot recommend this to anyone.

Summary

Bunnys opened up during the COVID restriction. We saw their online ads as a Taiwanese restaurant that serves yam puffs. Later we found out they also specialize in steam buns. Bunnys is located on Marine Way near Glenlyon Pkwy in Burnaby.

Strength: Good Fried Calamari. Plenty of parking. Comfortable interior decor.

Weakness: Inconsistent food quality. Very small portion. Poor servcie.

Other Taiwanese Restaurants in Burnaby

Yum Bunnys needs lots of improvements

Bunnys seems like a franchise that’s poorly run. We came here twice and find that their food quality is inconsistent, and the buns are simply prepped without much care. They serve really small portioned food and don’t care about customers. The interior is spacious and comfortable, but the food and service quality needs lots of work. I asked for utensils so we can enjoy the food outside during the COVID restriction but we only found out we didn’t get any after we left.

Popcorn Chicken $8.55 taste like sand paper

The pop corn chicken was obviously overcooked. It was not only tasteless, but also really tough to chew. dry. It felt like I was eating sand paper with a hardened shell. I don’t know how they categorize themselves as a Taiwanese restaurant, but this food quality is not going to get them anywahere.

Yam Puff $6.00 is not the biggest bang for your buck

The yam balls are chewy, but a bit overpriced. The cook dropped one of my yam puffs on the floor, but the lady in the front asked him to just serve it as is. This happened right before my eyes, and there was no apology or compensation. The staff didn’t even mention this to me. This shows a lack of integrity of the store. This mistake should not come out of the expense of the customer and can be easily avoided by preparing a few extra. The way this was handled shows that this business doesn’t really take care of its customers.

Fried Calamari $9.55 is tender and flavorful

The calamari is probably the only item on the menu that’s worth your while at this restaurant. It is flavorful and very tender. I would recommend this item because it seems to have the least variation between my visits.

Braised Pork Golden Bun $8.35 is very messy to eat

The golden bun is simply deep fried steam bun. I ordered the braised pork version, which comes with 5 thinly sliced pork in bun. I like the sweet flavor from the sauce, but the bun is put together without much care. There were sauce that overflowed and got under and bun which glued the buns to the paper underneath. This is very messy to eat, so don’t order this if you are on date.
